Kherson captured by Russian forces

Following a sustained and rapid advance over the Dnipro River, Russian forces captured the city of Kherson, occupying governmental buildings and negotiating the surrender of the city. This represented the first occupation of a Ukrainian regional capital by conventional Russian forces in 2022.
