Ukraine granted EU candidate status

On 23 June 2022, the European Council granted Ukraine EU candidate status. Zelenskyy responded immediately, tweeting that this was a “unique and historic moment” and that “Ukraine’s future is in the EU". On Instagram, Zelenskyy called this "a victory".
