A series of explosions on Transnistrian government buildings, infrastructure and military locations began in April in a likely Russian false flag attack. Transnistria's Ministry of State Security was initially rocked by explosions on the 25 April, with the Grigoriopol transmitter site being levelled on 26 April. A number of other attacks of varying success took place over May, including near Europe's largest ammunition depot.
A week prior to the first attack on information conditions were set by Russia, similar to that of prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The attacks were likely to provoke Ukrainian forces and open up a second front to divert Ukrainian defensive and military resources.
