Foreign national fighters sentenced to death by a court in Russian-occupied Eastern Ukraine

The Kremlin attempted to leverage the capture of foreign volunteer fighters, including two Britons, by sentencing them to death by a court in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). The sham judgment was issued for political gain and the prisoners were used for leverage in negotiations. They were all later released on 21 September.
